I have been working on a Android client for Dreamwidth and LiveJournal based sites and am wondering what you would look for from the post entry screen.

I've got a HTC Desire with an LJ app on it... but I find what I really want the most is an app I can use to read entries, not write them. But I wonder if the LJ/DW API is suited for that at all.

Are you interested in developing a reading functionality in your LJ/DW app and not just posting?

If not, I might just make an LJ/DW reader app myself some time in the future. *is an Android dev* (albeit a very inactive one at the moment)

Reading entries is something I plan, probably not for the first released version however ( whenever that is, I really do hope to get something done by the end of the year but I have tons of other stuff going on )

I would have to fix the "get read page" function in the Dreamwidth protocol first, though -- and that's the main reason why I'm not working on reading at the moment.

( also, if you ever do make a reader of your own, feel free to use http://bitbucket.org/anall/ljclient-java as a base for your protocol handler -- I really hope to have that library be a good library for interfacing with as many different permutations of clone sites that exist )

It would be good if the journal pages automatically forwarded to the light style in a mobile browser. I can do it myself of course, but it persists across the board.

The new LJ mobile site is full of fail, you have to click about ten times to read a comment thread.

OMG this. When it's simpler and easier to use the main site then it is to use the mobile version, you know there's a problem.

So I've just had my android for about a month now, but I love it a lot. And it's much easier to just use the regular web than I expected it would be.

What does an app offer that the is easier? Is it resource conservation so my battery lasts longer? Or is it mostly to minimize the periphery so that I can hit all the links without needing to enlarge the text for better aim?

I have a Droid and occasionally use it to browse/post to DW. I'd really love to see full mobile compatibility with DW (reading & posting), but am thrilled to see this first step being taken. Thank you so much!

An observation that not all Droid phones use the latest Android OS. I have a barely 3 months old Cliq XT and it's stuck on 1.5 still. :p Love the Droid OS and the phone itself though.

Yeah, I am writing for 1.6 and higher ( unfortunately I cannot do 1.5 and higher ) to try to include as many devices as I can.

I would probably have your babies if you could make an app that didn't force close every two minutes. I've been a dedicated Android user for two years across three phones (G1, Samsung Behold 2, Mytouch Slide)* and every app out there is failuriffic for LJ. I haven't looked for DW because I have been so disappoint by the quality in LJ apps.

*Yes, I do have phoneitis.

I find that most LiveJournal client applications ( for anything, not just phones ) tend to suck horribly. That annoys the fuck out of me so much, so yeah, I am going to try and make sure the client works as well as it can *g*

I am excited about this! I use my Droid to browse DW all the time, and a decent client would probably get me to start posting from my phone, as well.

Answered as although I'm not an Android user, i work with them and deal with phone app testing and UI design as part of my job.

I have an HTC google phone and would happily test out your application for you. I have noticed the comments on apps at the android market and have notice the positive or negative feedback varies from brand of phone. So, am willing to be a tester for ya and give feedback if ya like!

I just took the leap from Windows Mobile to Android with an HTC/T-Mobile G2, and suddenly the idea of using my phone for DW (posting and reading/commenting) is a big, big deal. So I was happy to see this.

If I can be a tester for my particular device, I'd be happy to. Thank you for working on this project!
